In a year of upheavals and uprisings, isolation and self-reflection, we’ve found strength and solace in the work of the artists whose music we represent. During this difficult time, when concert halls across the globe have gone dark, we are proud to have given a platform to 15 widely-heralded recording projects that defy categorization. Indeed, 2020’s social shutdown has highlighted the importance of recordings to cut through our sense of isolation, connecting disparate households and communities through the shared experience of music. Recordings can also play an important role in the struggle for equity in the world of new music: when we ask artists to manifest their visions fully and directly, using the recorded album as the platform for their creativity, we move away from the hierarchies and power dynamics that still persist in our community, allowing new voices to be heard.

Today, we’re asking you to join our effort to help lift up the artistic community, at a time when it’s needed so desperately. Your donation goes directly to the development and support of our album releases, with 100% of album sales going directly to the artists. This year, as we invite you to join us in this mission through your support of New Amsterdam, we asked some of our artists what it meant for them to release music in a time of social isolation and the broad uprising against racial injustice. Throughout our campaign, you’ll hear from some of this year’s most impactful voices on our label, and hear some new music that was created entirely during the pandemic.
