HUMAN

A deeply personal document from Travis Laplante recorded over a series of 7 intimate concerts at his former home in Vermont, human finds Laplante diving into the vulnerability, mystery, and magic of solo improvisation after years of focusing primarily on composition for his ensembles Battle Trance and Subtle Degrees.

 

SPARE THE ROD!

Collaboration between Austin-based composer Yevgeniy Sharlat and NOW Ensemble. The three-movement piece tracks a day in the life of a child, as she “rises”, “plays”, “dreams”. It uses two music boxes created by artist Yuliya Lanina that present scenes from classic fairy tales that hide a dark underbelly of violence and abuse behind their innocuous façade.

OAK AND THE GHOST

New York-based violist Nathan Schram's debut solo album, featuring Attacca Quartet (of which Schram is a member) and Becca Stevens in 9 of Schram's original compositions.



AGENCY

From composer David T. Little, featuring the world premiere recording of the work for string quartet and electronics with American Contemporary Music Ensemble, Third Coast Percussion, Andrew McKenna Lee (The Knells), and Julian Day.

JAMAIS VU

From composer Jacob Taswell, the result of efforts to consider his sound, composition process, and artistic goals.


BIG DOG LITTLE DOG

From mind-melding duo project of violinist/composer Jessie Montgomery and bassist/songwriter Eleonore Oppenheim. The pair use an improvisational composition technique that draws on many genres and their experience as native New Yorkers to create lush, cinematic soundscapes that are by turns sweeping and achingly intimate. The album is a deep dive into the meditative space of the interior and an exploration of our place as humans in the natural world.

Two track digital release from yMusic consisting of a 20-minute work by Marcos Balter and a 30-minute long film about the creation of the work.


CITYSCAPES

First full-length album from the New York City-based, eclectic powerhouse band ShoutHouse, a collaboration between more than 25 artists, including four composers, five rappers, three jazz soloists, and more than a dozen classical musicians. Directed by composer Will Healy, who also composed the majority of the tracks on the album. 

ISLANDIA

From UK-based composer and performer Daniel Elms, compiled of five works for chamber orchestra, electric guitar, synthesizers and found sounds each ruminating upon the post-industrial coastal towns and people of North East England.


WORK SONGS

Collection of songs from composer and performer Timo Andres, featuring Ted Hearne, Gabriel Kahane, Becca Stevens, Nathan Koci, and Taylor Levine. Scored for voices, guitars, accordion, piano and keyboard and premiered on the Ecstatic Music Festival in 2014.

ALULA


From Brooklyn-based composer Caroline Davis, born out of several duo performances between Davis and Gregory Saunier and featuring original pieces by Davis, whole-heartedly motivated by the study of an anterior digit on a bird’s wing.

A multimedia song cycle for soprano, electronics and chamber ensemble from New Zealand-born, Princeton-based composer Gemma Peacocke based on a collection of Afghan women’s folk poems translated by Eliza Griswold in the book I Am the Beggar of the World: Landays from contemporary Afghanistan.


LE CREATURE NEL GIARDINO DI LADY WALTON

From acclaimed musician Padma Newsome, featuring performances by his sister Sue Newsome. The material was the inspiration behind Clogs' release, "The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton" (Brassland, 2010) and is scored for six bass clarinets.

A GREAT MANY

From Brooklyn-based composer Aaron Siegel, scored for six percussionists and clarinet that represents the latest collaboration in 10-year relationship between Siegel and Mantra Percussion, also featuring clarinetist Christa Van Alstine.

SIREN ISLANDS

A raw collection of ambient, experimental electronic music from Pakistan-born, Brooklyn-based composer and performer Arooj Aftab. Carrying strong themes of female empowerment, and taking inspiration from the mythology of Sirenum Scopuli and praised by the New York Times's Seth Colter Walls as "easily one of my favorite releases from the first half of this year."
