“Joachim wanted her project to preserve the legacies of a number of women overlooked in Haiti’s musical history. Her arrangements of their works live side-by-side her own original compositions. Threading them all together are a series of interludes featuring the voices of women who champion Haiti’s musical legacy, and they share intimate stories discussing their own personal histories. Lives and legacies are complicated, and they must be remembered as a whole, not a series of separate parts. That idea guides this album too. It encourages you to familiarize yourself with the sum of the parts, not just the parts themselves. So do it.”
