New Amsterdam is excited to announce NOW Ensemble's Spare the Rod!, available exclusively via our Windmill Series. The EP will be out on all digital platforms on December 13, 2019.

Spare the Rod! is a collaboration between Austin-based composer Yevgeniy Sharlat and NOW Ensemble. The three-movement piece tracks a day in the life of a child, as she “rises”, “plays”, “dreams”. It uses two music boxes created by artist Yuliya Lanina that present scenes from classic fairy tales hiding a dark underbelly of violence and abuse behind their innocuous façade.

Denver-based composer and producer Jacob Taswell's Jamais Vu is out now across all digital platforms. Previously available exclusively through New Amsterdam's Windmill Series, you can now find the EP on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music and more.

Jamais Vu is based on the sounds and styles of rock bands, pushing new organizational structures and meanings for these familiar elements through digital techniques. Making the EP involved applying large amounts of processing to a small collection of lo-fi recordings and stock virtual instruments, and patterning these sounds across complex, flowing rhythmic spaces with the aid of software.
